Two men have pleaded not guilty to murder, robbery and assault in a deadly home invasion in Cherrybrook that left one Sydney grandfather dead.

A Supreme Court trial has commenced for Danny Stephen and Tony Tadros, who are accused of murdering 86-year-old Kalim Saliba during a violent home invasion in Cherrybrook. The incident occurred when masked intruders entered the Saliba home, demanding money and attacking the elderly couple, resulting in Mr Saliba's death from head injuries.

The prosecution alleges the accused, both distant relatives of the Salibas, targeted the couple due to their belief that cash was kept in the house. Both men have pleaded not guilty, and the trial will include testimony from family members, including Mr Saliba's wife, Shahidi. A significant appeal for information was issued following the incident, and the Saliba family hopes the trial will bring them closer to answers.

Shahidi Saliba was up watching television just after midnight next to her sleeping husband Kalim in their Cherrybrook home in April 2020, when the elderly couple's front door was smashed in and they were forced to defend themselves. He picked up part of a vacuum cleaner, a pipe, and Mrs Saliba picked up a broom. A man appeared in a mask and demanded, where is the money? Shahidi was then knocked unconscious and Kalim was struck in the head several times, fracturing his skull. The 86-year-old was taken to hospital but later died from his horrific injuries. 35-year-old Danny Stephen and 60-year-old Tony Tadros were charged with murder, intent to rob and assault. They have pleaded not guilty. In their Supreme Court trial today, the jury was told the pair are distant relatives of the Salibas. The two accused had bank accounts with very little money in them. They simply wanted to obtain some from relatives who had money at their house, the Crown alleges. The Salibas owned an orchard business and the jury was told they had an old-fashioned attitude to money. They didn't do electronic banking and they kept cash in a safe. Family members will appear as witnesses in the trial, including Kalim's surviving wife Shahidi who will give evidence on Thursday about what she remembers from the vicious attack. The defence barristers for the accused today denied their involvement. A million-dollar appeal for information was issued after the home invasion.
