Dr. Maker advised adults to offer realistic comfort and focus on safety planning, while school leaders emphasized the importance of community support. ICE has not yet provided a statement regarding the incident.

We have added counselors and district staff at the school today because the ripple effects of an incident like this extend far beyond the moment itself. What are some of the things that you think a lot of the students and parents are probably feeling? I spoke with a clinical psychologist to understand what the children may be feeling. Dr. Asmira Maker says it's most likely anxiety, and the behavioral symptoms would be this. I don't want to leave the house. I don't want to separate from the parent. I don't want to go to school. I don't want to go to the bathroom alone. I don't want to sleep in my own bed. Dr. Maker says adults must be mindful when comforting children in situations like this, where the trauma is beyond anyone's control. They can't say, tomorrow it'll be okay. They can say things like, we're working on it. We're trying to find out where this person is and how to bring them back. I reached out to ICE asking why immigration enforcement actions are taking place near children. ICE wrote me back saying they're working on a response. Dr. Maker's final advice for those supporting children is to focus on this. To talk to them about safety planning. And then also it builds a sense of community, builds a sense of belonging.
