Thailand's government has announced the suspension of an enhanced ceasefire agreement with Cambodia, citing a recent landmine blast that injured four Thai soldiers. The agreement, signed in the presence of U.S. President Donald Trump the previous month, aimed to reduce hostilities following deadly clashes in July that resulted in at least 48 deaths and the displacement of approximately 300,000 people.

In response to the incident, Thailand will also delay the return of 18 Cambodian prisoners of war and has informed Washington of its decision. Cambodia has denied laying new landmines and called on Thailand to avoid patrols in old minefield areas, while reiterating its commitment to the October ceasefire deal.

Tensions between the two Southeast Asian nations have escalated following a landmine blast on Monday that injured four Thai soldiers. Thailand's military has accused Cambodia of laying new mines after the two countries agreed on the enhanced ceasefire steps, which included the withdrawal of troops and heavy weapons. Thai Prime Minister Anithin Chanwairakul said, I agree and support the decisions made by the defence ministry and the military on this. All the work that we have put forward earlier would have to stop until we have clarity. Thailand's Defence Minister Nataporn Narfanit said the government will also delay the return of 18 Cambodian prisoners of war currently held by its military. He declined to answer a question on whether troops would be redeployed. On Tuesday, Cambodia's defence ministry denied that it had laid new landmines and urged Thailand to avoid patrols in old minefield areas. It also reiterated its commitment to working with Bangkok in line with the October deal.
