Terrorism has no nationality or religion. The Tajik people sympathize with the brotherly people of Russia. Nearly a million of their fellow citizens are registered in Russia. They're among the millions of migrants from Central Asia who live and work there. Discrimination towards them and other Muslim minorities is not new in Russia, but has been stoked by the detained suspects being from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. It's an inconvenient fact for the Russian president, who was quick to appeal for unity in his first comments after the attack. No one will be able to sow poisonous seeds of panic and discord in our multi-ethnic society. Vladimir Putin has accused Ukraine and the West of being involved in the attack in order to stir up ethnic tensions. A suggestion echoed by the head of Russia's Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill. With Russia's economy facing pressures linked to its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Central Asian migrant labourers are helping to keep its military supply chain going, while Russia's Muslim minorities make up a growing number of the soldiers on the front line.

King Charles will return to his public duties next week for the first time since his February cancer diagnosis, visiting a cancer treatment centre. There fears his Australian trip will be delayed, while he continues treatment for his own cancer battle.
