If found guilty, Taleb al- faces life imprisonment for murder. A special hall has been set up to host the trial, with space for over 140 co-plaintiffs and 400 witnesses expected to attend. He has described himself as an activist who is critical of Islam and a Saudi atheist. He has voiced support on social media for the far-right Alternative for Germany party, praising it for fighting the same enemy as him. He also ran a website offering to help people flee his home country. The trial is expected to continue for several months under high security measures.
