Mortensen recalled hearing her roommate Kaylee Gonsalves scream after encountering someone in her room and described a man's unsettling voice. Funk mentioned hearing loud noises and initially thinking it might have been a prank.

The footage also notes that Brian Koberger, a PhD student at Washington State University, was later sentenced to life without parole for the murders. The roommates' testimonies provide further insight into the events of that night and the trauma experienced by those who survived.

In the footage, roommate Dylan Mortensen recalls hearing cries from her roommate Kaylee Gonsalves and a man's voice. I heard some guy say, you're going to be okay, I'm going to help you. And I kept calling her name but she wasn't answering. And then I opened the door for a second and I saw this guy, he was wearing all black and like this mask which was covering his forehead and his mouth. Mortensen had been out with her roommates that night but around 4 a.m. was woken up by strange noises in the house. And I just kept hearing this guy's voice and I didn't recognize it saying, you're going to be okay, I'm going to help you. But it was like, I don't know how to explain it. Like it wasn't in like a nice way, it was like a weird way, like a weird tone. Roommate Bethany Funk, the only other person to survive that night, described noises she heard. I heard something like loud and weird, like bark. But usually like she barks at things. And then I thought I saw like a firecracker so I thought someone maybe was just drunk and like put a firecracker in the house. But I wasn't even really sure because I was kind of still asleep so I wasn't sure if it was like real. In July, Brian Koberger, a PhD student at Washington State University, was sentenced to life without parole for the murders.
