Scott Muir experienced a severe surfing accident in Oceanside, California, resulting in a broken neck and paralysis from the neck down. After emergency surgery and intensive rehabilitation, Muir regained movement and was able to walk out of the rehab facility 77 days after his injury.

Muir has since returned to surfing, accompanied by Judah Ely, who rescued him at the scene of the accident. Their bond has grown, with Ely becoming part of Muir's family, marking a remarkable recovery and friendship following the life-threatening incident.

WITHIN 45 MINUTES SCOTT WAS AT SCRIPPS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL IN LA JOLLA TO UNDERGO AN EMERGENCY SPINAL FUSION. AFTER A WEEK AND A HALF HE COULD MOVE A FEW FINGERS AND A FOOT. THAT'S IT. THEN HE WAS LIFELIDED TO A SPECIALIZED REHAB CENTER IN COLORADO. The only things you have control over are effort and attitude. And that's it. If you can max out your effort and be positive about it, all sorts of things can happen. THAT POSITIVITY PUSHED SCOTT TO A POINT THAT SEEMED ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE. BY DECEMBER 14TH, 77 DAYS AFTER BEING PARALYZED FROM THE NECK DOWN, HE WALKED OUT OF THE FACILITY ON HIS OWN. It's a little lurchy back and forth, you know? I look like Frankenstein, but that's part of the process is just learning to walk again. AND JUST LAST WEEK, SCOTT WENT BACK INTO THE BELLY OF THE BEAST, CATCHING WHAT FELT LIKE HIS FIRST WAVE ALL OVER AGAIN. I rewatch that video all the time of everyone hooting and hollering and just remembering that feeling of, oh yeah, I can do this again. AND HE DID SO WITH JUDAH RIGHT BACK BY HIS SIDE.
