California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, contested the deployment of troops and has called out the president for his actions. His state of mind doesn't seem to be focused on the issue of crime and violence. It's about an expression of authoritarianism. Trump has promised record-level deportations, and his administration's immigration raids, including in Los Angeles, have prompted panic as well as protests. They've also drawn lawsuits over the aggressive tactics employed by masked and armed federal enforcement agents.
