The ceasefire in Sudan between government forces and rival paramilitary rapid support forces has been extended for another five days. Earlier ceasefires have proven fragile in the past, having been flooded by both sides. Monday saw renewed fighting in the area of the capital Khartoum. Since the war began in mid-April, at least 886 civilians have been killed and thousands wounded, according to the Sudanese Doctors' Association. They say the death toll could possibly be much higher. The war has also displaced nearly 1.5 million people, both internally and to neighbouring countries.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Monday (December 8) that unity between Europe, Ukraine and the U.S. was important when negotiating an end to Russia's war in Ukraine. He made the remark during a visit to London.
