A perilous journey to get here. Port Sudan is now one of the only ways out of the conflict. It's also the only place foreign soldiers are still arranging escape. No longer by air. Here it's by sea. Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs Melanie Jolie visiting nearby Kenya says Canadian troops are in Port Sudan too. We have a team right now of armed forces along with key diplomats that are there. If there is a safe way out Melanie Jolie says the remaining 200 plus Canadians should leave. Concretely speaking they could consider going to Port Sudan. But for most Sudanese there's no escape. This hospital overrun with the injured. One of the few still operating medicine all but gone. People are exchanging everything they own to buy escape. By ferry up the Nile to Egypt or overland to Chad and other neighboring states. Meanwhile fighting rages in the capital. Even as supposed ceasefires get extended in a country where a third of the population relied on humanitarian aid before the conflict. Now there's nothing happening because of the war. So we need the UN and others to be able to get down to the ground and continue their work. This is a war about power. This is a war for the sake of control. This is a war for the sake of war. So our goal is to make sure that we get to a ceasefire. The US and Saudi Arabia are leading efforts to have each side stop the killing. There's now set to be a week-long ceasefire starting Thursday. But no truce has worked so far. The UN now predicts 800,000 Sudanese will flee the country creating a massive refugee crisis for the region. David Comet, CBC News, Nairobi.
