A Shepparton family returned from an overseas trip to find their house burglarized and illegally occupied. Police are investigating after valuables were stolen and squatters kept returning to the residence.

A Shepparton family returned from a three-week trip to Nepal to find their home had been broken into and occupied by an unknown man. The family, which includes two young children, discovered the man sitting on their couch, eating pizza, smoking, and watching television. According to the family, the man claimed to live at the address and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

Upon inspection, the family found that drawers and cupboards had been ransacked, and valuables, including tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of gold and wedding jewellery, were missing. They also found drug paraphernalia, alcohol, groceries, and toiletries that did not belong to them. The family reported that items such as clothing, bags, kitchenware, and other valuables were also taken.

After police were called, the squatter was removed from the premises. However, the family stated that the man returned multiple times, insisting that the house belonged to him. Police reportedly informed the family that up to 20 individuals had been seen coming and going from the house daily.

The family has since been relocated to emergency accommodation, and the locks at the property have been changed. The house is currently vacant, and the police investigation is ongoing. To help with their recovery, the family has started a GoFundMe campaign.

Tens of thousands of dollars worth of gold and valuables were missing with drug paraphernalia, alcohol, even groceries and toiletries moved in. All our valuables, stuff like gold, silver, clothes, bags, kitchenware, everything were gone. My wedding jewellery that was gifted by my late father. The family called the police and the squatter was removed, only for him to return multiple times, claiming the house was now his. Police told me that there were 17 to 20 people coming in and out of that house every day. The family has been moved to emergency accommodation and the locks have been changed at the address, the house seemingly vacant.
