Persistent rounds of severe thunderstorms will set up across portions of the Plains as the heat dome strengthens across the western US. Drier conditions are in store for the Plains by this Wednesday.

Thunderstorm activity across the Southern Plains is evolving, with the threat in South Texas decreasing while severe weather warnings have been issued for the northern panhandle and southern Kansas. Flash flooding remains a concern, but attention is shifting to strengthening storms in these northern areas. 

Rainfall has lessened between Austin and San Antonio, while temperatures are expected to rise in cities such as El Paso, Austin, Dallas, and Little Rock. Conditions are forecast to become drier for most areas, with summer-like warmth persisting in the west.

Spotty storms target the Plains

We could take you now into South Texas and other parts of the Southern Plains. Really, our South Texas thunderstorm threat has been diminishing sharply, but we've got action up to the north. There's even a severe weather threat emerging up into the northern panhandle and into southern Kansas. Numerous severe thunderstorm warnings in progress. Yeah, we've gone from mainly a flash flooding threat, which is still a concern. Don't get me wrong, but we're starting to see some of these storms really strengthen and get to the severe side of things where our focus may start to shift towards those storms. Heavy storm to south of Wichita, not quite warned as severe. Here's new brothels in the area between Austin and San Antonio. You've had some heavy rain that really has been fizzling as we step on in through today. That was footage from what's from yesterday there. And then into Tuesday, we have some warmth out there to the west and great weather a little farther east. A quick snapshot at Wednesday. A little drier for most of us by then. Summer like El Paso, though, we do see temperatures drop slowly, but surely we're at 98 by the time we get to Wednesday. Mid 90s for Austin, low 90s for Dallas. And turning a little warmer and a little rock after some mid 80s. Tomorrow, upper 80s return.
