A third significant storm in two weeks is affecting the Southwest United States, bringing heavy rain to California and mountain snow to the Sierra. Los Angeles has already received over half an inch of rain, while San Diego is expected to see measurable rainfall as the evening progresses. 

The storm has caused flash flooding and water rescues in Phoenix, with additional impacts in Las Vegas. As the system moves inland, it is expected to bring more rain to Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, as well as snow to Colorado. Authorities warn of flash flooding, especially in burn scar areas, and advise residents to remain alert for hazardous conditions.

Let's recap a bit before we look into the future because this is not the only storm we've had. This is at least what the third in the last two weeks that we've seen. So looking back the last 24 hours, that second storm in the mix was really moving into Arizona into New Mexico. That's the rain totals you see here even close to half an inch in Albuquerque, Phoenix, only a 10th of an inch. However, some of the rainfall was more than 24 hours ago, but still yesterday led to a lot of flash flooding. We had at least two water rescues in the Phoenix area. We had hail, severe thunderstorms. It was a mess yesterday in Vegas. Saw some impacts there as well that you're seeing on the right hand side of your screen. But now, as we look towards California, today is the focus. L. A. Now up to 6.1 hundredths of an inch of rain. We're starting to see it moving through the city. Still no measurable rainfall in San Diego, but the evening is young, especially pacific time. So let's look at radar over the last couple of hours here, how things have been progressing. We are seeing that snow into the Sierra, but the rain moving into L. A. And still off the coast of San Diego. But next couple hours, it'll start to move in there as well. So this storm started yesterday in northern California. It's moved south, similar to the setup of some of our other recent storms. We're gonna see the core of the storm system, the area of low pressure move inland as we go throughout tomorrow, and then we start to get more problems into Arizona and New Mexico once again. Then eventually into Texas, just like Jeff was mentioning. Take a look at future radar, though, and what this means for the southwest, especially southern California. So taking a look, starting to play things out here because the core of our storm system is gonna be moving through southern California. We get a couple rounds of some heavy downpours. It's not super widespread, at least along the coast, somewhere like L. A. San Diego. We're talking half an inch to an inch over all into the foothills, especially some localized higher amounts are certainly possible. So across the board, flash flooding is a concern here, but especially burn scar areas. We've been talking about those a lot recently. Debris flows are they're more susceptible to debris flows in those areas. So that's where you especially want to keep in mind the negative impacts we could see from this rainfall on the positive side. I mean, there are drought conditions that this is gonna help with. Overall, we take a look as it continues to move further inland. Then we get issues into Vegas again into Arizona. We'll see some heavy rainfall moving through Phoenix and then even some snow into Colorado as we go throughout the weekend before this really moves into Texas like Jeff was talking about. Here's the snowfall for the Sierra past level. It's only a couple inches. We're seeing less than a foot overall, but still we're accumulating. Some could create some slick conditions out there also could lead to some ski resorts opening up somewhere like Mammoth Mountain could see some gusty winds as well. So there's pros and cons to all of this. Just make sure you're staying weather aware and staying safe on the roads.
