Erika, can you explain what happened in the Senate? Yeah, Lindsay, just a short time ago, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer took to the Senate floor to get unanimous consent that would deem this bill automatically passed as soon as the House transmits it, avoiding any amendments or any further action needed by the Senate. And there were no objections, so when this bill is transmitted by the Senate, it will be deemed automatically passed, clearing the way to then head to President Trump, who had previously suggested that he would sign this bill. Now, this comes after Senate Majority Leader John Thune earlier threw some cold water on the possibility of any amendments being made to this bill, citing that near-unanimous vote in the House, which sent a clear message as one of the rare displays of bipartisanship here on Capitol Hill. Now, House Speaker Mike Johnson had raised some concerns about the bill in its current form, pushing for provisions that could protect the identity of some of the survivors of Epstein's crimes who wanted to remain anonymous. He said that Congress should grant the attorney general with broader authority to redact some of that information related to those survivors. And that also received some pushback from Republicans like Thomas Massey, who said that any changes made in the Senate should not prevent disclosure. But with that unanimous consent in the Senate, it now clears the way for this bill as soon as it is transmitted from the House to head to President Trump, who previously indicated that he would sign it. And how quickly could we see the Epstein documents if this bill does become law? Within a month. So the Epstein Files Transparency Act stipulates that after this bill is signed into law, those files have to be released within 30 days. It compels the Justice Department to release all unclassified materials, records, communications related to Jeffrey Epstein, as well as related to the investigation into his death in federal prison.
