The U.S. House and Senate have both passed the Epstein Survivors Act, a bill that compels the Department of Justice to release all unclassified investigative materials related to Jeffrey Epstein. The bill received strong bipartisan support and is now awaiting President Trump's signature to become law.

The legislation's passage followed internal disputes within the Republican Party and public statements from President Trump, who previously dismissed the issue as a partisan hoax. Despite his earlier reluctance, Trump is expected to sign the bill, which will make the Epstein investigation files publicly accessible.

Trump set to sign bill to release Epstein files

Returning now to our top story, the House and Senate passing the bill to release unclassified Epstein documents. CBS News Congressional Reporter, Torian Small, joins us from our D.C. Bureau to discuss this. Torian, wow, against all odds, this bill now poised to become law. President Trump just needs to sign it. What exactly does the Epstein Survivors Act do? Well, it would essentially compel the Department of Justice to release all investigative material, so that's documents, subpoenas, that's all information related to the investigation into the convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein. But this also comes after, for months, we've heard from a top Republican supporter of this bill, Thomas Massey, from Kentucky, and his support from Democrats to get this across the finish line. This caused rifts within the Republican Party, including a very notable spat between Marjorie Taylor Greene and President Trump, to which she's now gone on this pretty much apology tour, walking back her previous rhetoric and saying that it is now harmful to her how the president has been attacking her. What we saw happen yesterday, though, was the House passed this with a supermajority, near unanimous, out of the House, and then, through unanimous consent, the Senate also signed off on this, although the House speaker hasn't walked it over to the Senate yet to make it official. It now heads to the president's desk, where it's likely to be signed into law very soon. And as much as President Trump has said he wants to get this behind him, he will now sign this bill, he did have the power to compel the Department of Justice to release information prior. So why didn't the president release this himself? Well, the president was largely dismissive of this, which flies in the face of what he campaigned on. Him and his surrogates said that their top priority would be releasing the Epstein files, the so-called Epstein files. Once he got into office, he says this is just a hoax perpetuated by the Democratic Party. This is what he had to say yesterday before the vote happened. I have nothing to do with Jeffrey Epstein. I threw him out of my club many years ago because I thought he was a sick pervert. You just keep going on the Epstein files. And what the Epstein is is a Democrat hoax. I just got a little report, and I put it in my pocket, of all the money that he's given to Democrats. He gave me none, zero, no money to me. But he gave money to Democrats. Leading up to this vote, the president said he is asking his Department of Justice to investigate Democrats' involvement with Epstein. That includes subpoenaing bank records.
