Israel's military says it was targeting, quote, a Hamas training compound. Blake Sifton is following this for us from Tel Aviv. Blake, what is the latest on this so far? Good morning, Marianne. We understand that this was a drone strike that targeted a vehicle near a mosque in the Palestinian refugee camp of Ein El Hiloua near Sidon in southern Lebanon. The Israeli military says, as you say, that they were targeting a training center. They say that Hamas was planning attacks from that training center, and they released a statement saying the IDF is operating against Hamas entrenchment in Lebanon and will continue to operate against Hamas wherever they operate. Now, Hamas have rejected this allegation that this was a training center as fabrications and lies. They say that there is no military infrastructure in Palestinian camps in Lebanon, and they say that this was a sports field being used by young men. Now, this was the single deadliest Israeli airstrike in Lebanon since a ceasefire was reached between Israel and Hezbollah last November, and that's despite the fact that the Israeli military has been carrying out near daily airstrikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon. Just today, there are reports of another airstrike targeting a vehicle in southern Lebanon that killed one man on injured school Children reportedly who were on a bus that was traveling by the site of the blast, and the Israeli military confirmed carrying out two separate strikes in southern Lebanon yesterday that they say killed two Hezbollah operatives. So, Blake, how do these strikes in Lebanon impact the dynamics in that region? So just under a year since this ceasefire was reached between Israel and Hezbollah, tensions are already very high. Hezbollah has accused Israel of violating the ceasefire through these strikes in Lebanon, as well as by by remaining inside Lebanese territory. According to the ceasefire, Israel and Hezbollah were meant to leave southern Lebanon, but Israel has kept forces inside Lebanese territory at five separate locations. Israel has accused Hezbollah of seeking to rearm and rebuild their capabilities in southern Lebanon. He is part of me. The Lebanese government is under extraordinary pressure, both by the United States and by Israel to disarm Hezbollah and Palestinian factions. They say they're working toward that goal. Earlier this year, they banned Hamas from operating inside Lebanon, and they've seized hundreds of rockets and other weapons from Palestinian camps in Lebanon. But attacks like this have been carried out by Israel and Hezbollah, and they're But attacks like this targeting Palestinian factions in Lebanon are quite rare, with only a few over the last year. And that's in comparison to the hundreds of Israeli strikes that have targeted Hezbollah.
