Having only won the premiership once, the team views anything less than a grand final appearance as falling short of expectations. Captain Blake Brailey, who has yet to lose as skipper, is leading the team with a focus on preparation and mindset, stressing the importance of not becoming complacent after recent successes.

As they prepare to face the Melbourne Storm, the Sharks are aware of the challenge ahead, particularly with the potential return of key Storm player Jerome Hughes. The team remains committed to putting in their best performance, with Brailey drawing inspiration from former captain Paul Gallen and maintaining a disciplined approach to leadership.

It's nice to be putting the performances together, but we haven't done anything yet. We've still got a very, very tough week ahead of us and just looking forward to the challenge. How important is that mindset, we haven't done anything yet? It really is, it's huge. You can't get ahead of yourselves, especially when we literally haven't done anything yet. We played in a prelim last year, that's the best we've gone, so we're as good as we have been last year, but we can't be satisfied with that. You get too ahead of yourself, you get too lost in the moment, you play the occasion not the game, then you'll get jumped. Leading that message is Blake Brainley, captain for just four games, he's yet to lose as skipper. I don't want to start any time soon, so yeah, it's a real moment for myself. Definitely at the start of the year, I didn't have captaining the Sharks in the final series anywhere on my goals, on my list. But he's taken to it flawlessly, Mr Consistent in the Shire, dreaming of following Paul Gallen's footsteps to a premiership. Yeah, I've sat at home a lot visualising it, I've dreamt about it. I think he's pre-writing his speeches the night before, because they're really well executed and really well written, so I think I've noticed I'm more prepared, Blake Brainley. Preparation is everything, venturing into enemy territory, the Storm knowing the Purple Army will have a huge voice on Friday night. We really want to put our best foot forward, and that's nonetheless come Friday night. Bit of stuff going on around here, I'm sort of forgetting the question, I'm getting all these noises going on.
