The Seychelles is commemorating the 40th edition of its Creole Festival, an event recognized internationally for promoting Creole culture. Since its inception in 1985, the festival has become a model for similar celebrations in Creole-speaking regions worldwide. 

This year's program features a blend of traditional and contemporary expressions of Creole life, including street parades, culinary fairs, fashion shows, and art exhibitions. Highlights include the Lafolle Landmark Fashion event, the Hands of Heritage art exhibition, and performances by award-winning young artists. The festival emphasizes the archipelago's multicultural origins and the unity found in its diversity.

The Seychelles has kicked off celebrations for the 40th edition of Creole Festival, an event that continues to stand as a global reference for promotion of Creole culture. First launched in 1985, the archipelago became the first country in the world to establish a festival dedicated to Creole heritage, a model later embraced across the Creole-speaking world. This is something unique within us, and it comes from our diverse origins. We came from different continents, from Europe, Africa, and Asia. What's important, what makes us proud, is this diversity that unites us. We all share a common identity in which everyone can find themselves. From streets parades to culinary fairs, fashion, music, and arts, the festival program blends tradition and modern expression of Creole life. The Lafolle Landmark Fashion spotlighted young designer Mervyn Cedras, who showcased pieces inspired by the island's festive Creole flair. My culture is African Creole, there's also European blend. It's all of that at once. At the National Gallery, the exhibition Hands of Heritage has gathered artists from various Creole-speaking regions, among them visual artist Juliette Zellini, presented a living installation titled Jouer, a tribute to the popular game of dominoes. This work highlights the traditional game of dominoes, very popular in Seychelles, but also in other Creole countries. It's a game which real cultural values pass down from generation to generation. Rise and Talent, Ishan Rath, winner of the Young Promising Artists Award, captivated audiences during the special gala celebrating 40 years of our culture in Victoria. Consciously and unconsciously, growing up in this nature, in this environment, with this music and these mixes of colors, all of this has inspired me to be who I am.
