Meteorologist Tony Laubach recapped a day of severe weather in Nebraska, where damaging winds reached up to 64 mph and caused downed tree limbs, along with heavy rain and hail. The same cold front responsible for these conditions is now moving south and stalling over eastern Colorado, creating a new focus for severe weather threats.

Eastern Colorado is expected to experience large hail and potentially damaging winds, with a slight chance of isolated, brief tornadoes. The severe weather risk also extends to southeast Wyoming and western Kansas, as storms are forecast to develop along the front range and move eastward. AccuWeather continues to monitor and report on these evolving conditions.

Severe weather brewing at Colorado High Plains

Well, after a busy severe weather day yesterday in Nebraska today, I'll be tracking storms across eastern Colorado. Is that cold front responsible for those severe storms in Nebraska works its way south and stalls out across eastern Colorado. That will be the focus for today's severe weather threat yesterday in Nebraska. Very stormy day as we saw damaging winds plague much of the area, including here in Stapleton, Nebraska, just to the north of North Platte, where we measured a 64 MPH wind gust that enough to take down numerous tree limbs in town. The heavy rain and hail that also fell in that area put some water on the roads, but nothing significant in that area is those winds and storms continue to work their way east through the overnight hours. Today we had some low clouds early, but the sun has been breaking through the afternoon. That is increasing the instability here across eastern Colorado, where I will be focused on today's severe weather threat. Large hail going to be an issue, I think, but the early storms can't rule out an isolated tornado. Those typically brief and weak in a setup like this, but it's gonna be the damaging wind threat. We'll also see concerns with today as storms form along the front range and work their way east across eastern Colorado portions of southeast Wyoming. Also in that threat area, western Kansas could also get in on that action as well. Severe weather also gonna be a factor elsewhere in the country, but my focus will be here on the high plains once again today, and we will continue to have you covered on that severe weather threat on the Accuweather network here today, reporting from eastern Colorado for Accuweather, I'm meteorologist Tony Laubach.
