Stormy weather shifted east on Sept. 24, leading to widespread risks for a large swath of the eastern U.S.

Severe thunderstorms are currently impacting a wide area stretching from the Gulf Coast to the Ohio Valley. The storms are producing heavy rainfall, with some regions experiencing hail up to the size of quarters, particularly in southern Virginia. 

Flooding is a concern in areas such as Arkansas and Mississippi due to persistent heavy rain. The highest risk for severe weather is highlighted from Alabama through East Texas, with additional strong storms expected to move eastward. The threat of severe weather and flooding is expected to continue as the storm system progresses.

Severe storms stretch from the Gulf Coast to the Ohio Valley

we're gonna be watching up for a heavier rainfall continuing here as we have throughout the next couple of hours. And as we head into this evening, first, go and start you off with a look here. Broad view on radar. We have multiple showers, multiple storms, and as I put the lightning on, you see multiple areas of, uh, of rooms of thunder as well. Let's go and first talk about the severe thunderstorm. Severe warned storm here across parts of Virginia. So this is gonna be this area. It's gonna be well to the south of Richmond. You can see right there, zooming in a little bit closer so we get some more town names on here for you. So overall, here's we freeze from the radar. This is gonna be primarily for the county of London Berg there in Virginia. So that's a pretty good hail core right there. So this storm does look like it is gonna be producing some small hail about nickel size hail, possibly even quarter size hail. As we go forward, you see the storm is starting to button up a little bit right now, which means that the overall intensity looks like it's about to peak and its overall maturity. So I wouldn't be surprised if the storm can maintain this level that we don't see an additional severe thunderstorm warning added onto the storm as we go forward in time. So overall, most of the strong storms we are tracking continue here for parts of Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, parts of Kentucky and Tennessee. We have a line of pretty good thunderstorms out there. Heavy rainfall continuing from Arkansas in the parts of Mississippi. We'll see some flooding potential out here, but I also want to point out that these areas that I have highlighted from Alabama through East Texas, this is what we're primarily gonna be watching out for the highest potential of severe weather, especially these little pockets here pushing from Mississippi into Alabama. This is what we're mainly gonna be watching for that elevator risk of severe weather. Here's an updated look at our AccuOil exclusive storm zone. And as we head into tonight, you can see this storm zone stretches from pretty much the Gulf Coast into the Ohio Valley. Cincinnati will be watching out for some heavy rainfall moving in here as we head into tonight. So overall, Anna, we've seen some strong to severe thunderstorms on going across this region, but we're not done yet. Just yet. We're still gonna be watching out for a risk of even some flooding rainfall heading into tonight. Yeah, then even tomorrow, our area of concern for severe weather just shifts to the east a bit.
