Thousands of 17 and 18-year-olds have arrived in Surfers Paradise, Queensland, to celebrate Schoolies week after completing 13 years of schooling. The event sees students gathering with friends, bringing essentials such as food, pillows, and alcohol, and expressing excitement for a week of festivities.

This year, organizers have relocated the beach stage to help protect the sand, but the change is not expected to affect the celebrations. Over 2,000 Red Frogs and first aid volunteers are on hand across the Gold Coast and other locations to ensure the safety of attendees during the week-long event.

Arriving with only the essentials, pillows, food and of course, alcohol. Have a bit of alcohol, have a cheeky beer you know. Full week of just drinking I guess and yeah, it's good to be out of school. Thousands of 17 and 18 year olds have finished 13 years of school and now are in party mode. Look I did four shots there, six shots over there, about six or seven, hey let's get rowdy. Hey, none of that on live telly mate, none of that. Parents nervously saying goodbye, hoping their teens are well behaved during week one of schoolies on the Gold Coast. I think you just got to trust that they'll do the right thing and surrounded by some friends that will support her as well. There's so many people around so it'll be good, surrounded by friends will be amazing. For some it didn't take long to start the party. Excited? This year brings some differences like the beach stage being moved to protect the sand. But that isn't expected to dampen the party. I don't know if it's as big as it used to be but I feel like we're just going to have fun. It's a bit more low key and we're just going to look out for each other. And all our friends are here so we can all just chill and hang out. So even if the party vibe's not crazy it's like at least have a good time with each other. And for worried parents at home, there are more than 2,000 Red Frogs and first aid volunteers roaming the streets. But you won't just find them here on the Gold Coast, they'll be up in Noosa, Airlie Beach and even overseas in Vanuatu and Fiji. The event runs for the next seven days.
