During her time there, she witnessed daily airstrikes and treated patients with serious injuries, including those from gunshot wounds. Nasser was off-site during a bombing that struck the hospital's emergency room, resulting in the loss of a colleague and friend. 

Her family expressed relief and pride at her safe return, while Nasser reflected on the emotional toll of her experience and the gratitude she feels for her own safety. She hopes her story will inspire others to volunteer and raise awareness about the situation in Gaza.

I feel that it's my duty to go and help those in need. That is exactly what she did. We first introduced you to ER nurse Amanda Nasser back in July. She was packing her suitcase with medical supplies, preparing for a month-long trip to Gaza. Good evening. Thanks for joining us tonight. We follow through with her return to San Diego now. ABC 10 News reporter Yasmeen Luti was there for the homecoming of the local nurse. It was an emotional day here at the San Diego International Airport where a nurse who volunteered at a hospital in Gaza reunited with her family for the first time in a month. Amanda Nasser's mom and other family and friends waiting anxiously for this moment. Amanda fresh off her flight coming down the escalator. Everyone overwhelmed with emotion, including Amanda. I feel honestly guilty leaving and sad that I left so many people that I became so close with. But I know I have so much love with my family here. Filled with mixed emotions after spending a month volunteering at a hospital in Gaza. Surreal. It's hard to dissociate between just leaving a war zone and arriving back in my city. She says no training, she's had an emergency medicine, could have prepared her for what she saw firsthand. The same floor that I walk on every day was hit. There's strikes every day. There's people coming in that live in the tents next to the hospital that are coming in with gunshot wounds. Amanda was volunteering at the Nasser Hospital. She was off-site at a training when the emergency room was bombed. At the end of August, she lost a dear friend and colleague in the attack. Her sister Fadwa recalls having sleepless nights when it happened. That was really hard because we didn't know if she was there, if she was hurt. All of us were asking her like, are you okay? Now that she's home, Fadwa couldn't be more proud of her sister. A lot of people who talk about what they would do and how they would act and how they would stand up, and my sister just embodied actually doing it. Amanda says seeing her family today filled her with gratitude. It makes my heart ache for Gaza because there's so many people, children, women, children, patients that have lost their lives, have lost their family members, and I just think back at how lucky I am. She hopes her trip to Gaza can inspire others to volunteer and learn more about what's happening overseas. Yasmeen Ludi, ABC 10 News.
