MLB Network analyst and 2013 World Series champion Ryan Dempster joined CBS News to preview the Major League Baseball all-star game, which will be held at Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves. Well Major League Baseball is at its halfway point in the twenty twenty five season and that means all star festivities are here this year Truist Park the home of the Atlanta Braves will host some of the best players from all 30 teams but ahead of tomorrow's all star game fans will also be able to catch some home runs at tonight's home run derby MLB network analyst and twenty thirteen World Series champ Ryan Dempster joins us from Atlanta. That's a hell of a good resume there. Ryan thank you so much for being here with us. Lots of talent this year both rookies and veterans alike. Can you give us a preview of this year's all star game in the home run derby. Yeah well I think you know you talked about it a lot of young talent too right. I think we have twenty first timers going to the all star game this year. It just shows the youth is on full display none greater than our two starting pitchers in the game. Tarek Spiegel versus Paul Steen. And this is the elite elite exactly what we want on the biggest stage at the mid summer classic. So it gets kicked off today with the home run derby guys like O'Neal Cruz are going to be absolutely scorching homers. James Wood who's my pick in this and then you know guys like Cal Raleigh out there in Seattle what he's putting on display this year. So many great young talents and this is what's a lot of fun. This home run derby is a blast. The fans come out in droves to watch the premier players hit homers. I get PTSD from all those home runs I gave up during my career but it is sure fun to see this young talent on display. Yeah. And then cheer on the next generation. We're halfway in the season. So the big question is are the guys standing so far this year kind of what you are expected. And then I guess another question who in your opinion is the favorite to win the World Series. Yeah I mean you know you look at the standings a couple of surprises. I didn't think the Central would be this one side where Detroit would have such a big lead. I thought teams like Kansas City might take a little bit more of a step forward. But as we know it's all about the second half of the season. But you look around at you know Toronto sneaking into first place all of a sudden the Red Sox have won ten in a row. There's a lot of hope and being talent for them. And you go to the National League you know obviously defending champs the Dodgers. They've just battled their way through all of these injuries this year and that comes with depth when you have a three hundred million dollar payroll and then kind of you know all stars and MVP candidates and show you a tiny the top of your lineup you're always in it. And I think it's theirs to lose until somebody knocks them off that perch and there's going to be some stiff competition the Cubs have burst on the scene this year ready to go. And even within their own division when you have the Giants and Sam Graham holding on like they have I mean everybody has been surprised by the Giants. I think you know they've done a tremendous job of playing some great baseball good starting pitching and combination of timely hitting. So right now it's the Dodgers to lose and somebody is going to have to knock them off that that perch that they're on. But there's a lot of teams capable of doing that. And we're going to get some excitement here in the next couple of weeks as we approach trading deadline to so fun to see the energy in the stands. And Ryan I must say you have humbled me today. I will be getting out my work bench because you've proven that cracks and advancing gray hair can be mutually appearing on the screen at the same time. Good job on the guns my brother.
