The FBI alleges that Jimenez-Gazelle, along with another suspect from Montclair, New Jersey, plotted an ISIS-inspired attack targeting gay bars in the Detroit area on Halloween night.

Jimenez-Gazelle was arrested at Newark International Airport before boarding a flight to Istanbul, reportedly en route to Syria. According to federal documents, he had pledged allegiance to ISIS, discussed weapons and training, and volunteered for ISIS-style beheadings. Rowan University stated there was never a threat to its campus community during the investigation. If convicted, Jimenez-Gazelle faces up to 20 years in prison.

And the probe took agents right through Philadelphia. This is the 10 o'clock news. I'm Jason Martinez. I'm Sheba Russell. The FBI says it had its sights on the suspect for a year. Our Dawn Timoney with more on the 19-year-old's arrest. Rowan University says the suspect, Tomas Jimenez-Gazelle, is a computer science student who enrolled in the fall as a freshman. He is one of two young men from Montclair, New Jersey, arrested in the plot. According to the complaint, they pledged themselves to ISIS and were plotting acts of terrorism in our country. The messages also included photographs of Jimenez-Gazelle standing in front of the ISIS flag holding a knife. The FBI says Jimenez-Gazelle volunteered to commit ISIS-style beheadings. He was taken into custody Tuesday at Newark International Airport before boarding a flight to Istanbul, allegedly on his way to Syria. The FBI says surveillance shows the 19-year-old getting on a train at 30th Street in Philadelphia to Newark Liberty Airport. He was reportedly in communication with other suspects and individuals overseas discussing attacks and plans to train with ISIS abroad. In their communications, they discussed detailed travel plans, physical training, weapons, including firearms and IEDs, and methods to avoid law enforcement detection. Rowan University's president issued a statement today saying, quote, at no time during the investigation was there ever a threat to the university community. The safety and integrity of our campus community are always our top priorities. I have nothing to say. Jimenez-Gazelle's mother, who Fox News says is the head of a U.N. program focused on women's rights, did not respond to reporters' questions following a court appearance for her son on Wednesday. The 19-year-old is charged with one count of conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terror organization and one count of attempting to provide support. If convicted, he could face a maximum of 20 years in prison. Dawn Timoney, Fox 29 News.
