A retired Beacon police officer has been detained in connection to a fatal shooting Monday night in Dutchess County, NY. State police say the victim was a 58-year-old male.

State police are investigating a fatal shooting in Beacon, Dutchess County, after a retired Beacon police officer was detained at the scene. Police responded to a call reporting a shooting on Rombat Avenue, where the caller stated he had shot his roommate.

Upon arrival, officers found that one of the people involved was a retired member of the local police force. The area remains cordoned off as investigators collect evidence, and state police have assumed control of the investigation. No further details about the victim or the events leading up to the shooting have been released.

Let's get right to News 12 Lisa the rocket in Beacon with what we know, Lisa. Yeah, very long night for police here in Beacon. They've been out here on Rombat Avenue since nine o'clock last night when this happened. I mean, just take a look. You can see they're still out here. Investigators still on the scene. They have the area cordoned off as well in front of the house right here. So here's what we know so far. According to Beacon police, they received a call at nine o'clock from a person saying that he'd shot his roommate. Investigators say when officers arrived, they discovered one of the people involved was a retired Beacon police officer. So detectives say that person was detained and then state police were immediately called to take over the investigation for obvious reasons. So at this point, we don't have any information on the victim or what may have led to this shooting again. Police out here since nine o'clock last night. So just a very, very long night. Uh, we've seen people going in and out of the house forensics. Detectives going to collect evidence. In the meantime, we spoke to one gentleman who lives here in the neighborhood. Here's what he told us. I had no idea. I thought maybe there were cars lining up for a funeral or something. And uh, then I went and I spoke with the officer and uh, it's just kind of a cliche to say that, you know, you never thought stuff like this would happen in your neighborhood. Yeah. And a very pretty neighborhood. You know, it's kind of classic of Beacon Mount Beacon just behind us. Kind of everyone's saying very quiet place. So this is certainly not the norm here. But again, I talked to police when we first arrived. They didn't have anything new they could give us just yet, but they said they would be releasing more information at some point today.
