Aftershocks in the wake of an earthquake that has killed more than 2,900 people in Morocco have hampered ongoing rescue and aid efforts. The magnitude 6.8 quake was centred on the country's Atlas mountains and has displaced thousands of people. Officials say at least 50,000 buildings have been damaged or destroyed.

The higher we go, the more narrow and more dangerous the road becomes. Really, this road should only fit one car or one truck, but it's a two-way street, meaning that with all the supplies coming up and down the mountain, many cars are navigating the cliff edges as they try and reach those people. Now in the heart of the Atlas Mountains, they reach one village that already has supplies. Once the supplies arrive here in the Atlas Mountains, they are placed in an open area where people can come and pick up what they need. At this point, many aid trucks have turned back. And you can see why. Mountains of debris is all that's left. As night falls, so too does confidence in these roads, creating a path here now only possible by hand. We thank God that we could, with our company OCP, reach the destroyed villages and we are doing our best day and night. This team won't give up. They're exhausted, but they go on. It's a dark and dusty expanse full of rubble and the road can barely be navigated. Two hours later, reprieve. The truck of mattresses has now arrived and they're dumping them all here on a plastic sheet for all the people in this rural area. And it's a huge effort. Everybody in this village is coming together to ensure that people here tonight will have a mattress to sleep on. Desperation turns to hope. The first day we were afraid, but now when we saw a lot of people helping us and they took really good care of us, we forgot about the earthquake and those problems around us. And the people are happy now. We are thankful for the Moroccan people. A moment of respite calls to rejoice. Thank you everyone and have mercy on the parents.
