The Texas Senate race has experienced a significant change as Democrat Colin Allred suspended his campaign to pursue a newly drawn congressional seat in the House. Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett is now considering entering the Senate race, a move that could influence both Democratic and Republican voter turnout due to her progressive stance.

Allred cited Crockett's potential candidacy as a factor in his decision to withdraw from the race. State Representative James Tallarico remains a contender, having gained attention during Texas redistricting and demonstrated strong fundraising abilities. Democratic leaders are concerned the primary could become divisive at a time when party unity is considered essential.

Moving on the map now to Texas for a last-minute shakeup in a Senate race. Democrat Colin Allred, he dropped out. He's instead running for a newly drawn congressional seat in the House. We're still waiting today for Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett to decide if she is going to join in the Senate race. CBS News reporter Shana Mazel joins us live now from Dallas. So what could the effect of having a progressive like Crockett do for the race? Hey Reid, that's actually a really great question and Republicans across the state of Texas are hoping that Crockett does decide to jump into this race because she is very progressive. Some see her as polarizing and while she could rally some Democratic voters to the polls, Crockett could be a figure that could force Republican voters to really turn out because she has been a very vocal opponent of President Donald Trump and she has said that she's not necessarily looking to build a coalition of split-ticket voters but instead looking to build a coalition of Democratic voters. So if Crockett joins the race, could she help drive the primary to a potential runoff? Absolutely. You mentioned earlier that Colin Allred just made the decision to suspend his Senate campaign and moments ago he was actually on CNN where he said that Crockett's a decision to jump in this race absolutely played a role in him suspending his campaign. Allred will now instead run for the House of Representatives but there's still another candidate in this race, James Tallarico. He's a state representative and he really rose to prominence over the summer when we covered the redistricting efforts here in Texas. He's proven that he has the ability to raise a lot of money in a short amount of time but Democrats are worried that this could be a primary and this is a time when the party thinks that they need to be united on all fronts.
