Cordingley was killed while walking her dog, and Singh fled Australia immediately after the crime, leading to a lengthy international search and his eventual extradition from India in 2022.

The verdict followed a four-week trial with testimony from 80 witnesses. Cordingley's family expressed that while the verdict brings a measure of justice, it cannot replace their loss. Singh remains in custody and will be sentenced to life imprisonment, the mandatory penalty for murder in Queensland.

Well, good evening to you. It happened just before five o'clock this afternoon, the jury returning its verdict after just seven hours of deliberations, finding that Rajwinder Singh is guilty of murdering Toye accordingly on Wangeti Beach, north of Cairns, in 2018. She had been stabbed repeatedly, her throat cut while walking her dog. The next day, her father found her body in a shallow grave. And at the same time, Rajwinder Singh was on a plane bound for Sydney and then to India. One million dollars, the largest reward ever offered in Queensland, was made for his arrest. It has since been paid. But it wouldn't be until 2022 in New Delhi when he was arrested, extradited back to Australia, to Cairns, the city in which he'd caused so much fear and tension. His first trial was held last year. It ended with a hung jury. His second trial was held last month. It heard from 80 witnesses and ran for four weeks. But it only took those seven hours for the jury to find him guilty. When that happened, cheers erupted from the public gallery. Another two courts, filled with media and onlookers, reacted the same way. Almost six and a half years now since Toye was taken from us in the worst of circumstances. It's not so much a great day or a day to celebrate for us. Today is a big piece of this journey that needed an ending. And most of all, justice for our Toye. As far as the person who committed this murder and inflicted a horrible death on our daughter, he will never be forgiven by us. We would like to thank the jury for their verdict. Today's verdict has delivered a form of justice. But for us, there can never be true justice, as we now live in a world without Toye. And the world is a poorer place for it. Rajwinder Singh does have a limited period of time now available to him in which he can appeal the verdict. But he'll remain in police custody until he's formally sentenced for the murder of Toye accordingly. That will happen tomorrow. But in Queensland, it is mostly a formality. There is only one punishment available to the court in terms of sentencing for murder in Queensland. That is life imprisonment.
