With over 1,100 patients occupying mainstream hospital beds instead of Commonwealth care, the Premier warned this is equivalent to removing the state's largest hospital from service. It's left a sour taste in Queenslanders' mouths. So we're going to park the cannoli diplomacy for a little while. Publicly rejecting a proposed funding deal where Canberra would fund 35% of state and territory hospital costs because it's a fall from the 42.5% agreed to in 2023. It's not a deal I'm willing to take. We won't accept it. Canberra still hopeful it can make a deal happen. If you don't, what are you going to do? Well, our intention is to come to an agreement. All while an NDIS overhaul is in the works. The previous government had been almost comically delinquent in their approach. The restructure will mean shifting some patients with lower-level impairments into state-based care. In Queensland, 1,126 are already in mainstream hospital beds instead of Commonwealth care, a handicap, says the Premier, for an already sick system dealing with ramping and bed shortages. That's the equivalent of removing the largest hospital in our state entirely from service. David Chrisofulli says he expects the health funding debate to snowball around the country, becoming a flashpoint regardless of individual states' political colours.
