Despite recent measures such as the installation of smog towers, construction bans, and cloud seeding to artificially induce rain, little improvement has been seen. New Delhi and its surrounding districts continue to suffer from thick smog, dust, and emissions, affecting tens of millions of residents.

What began as peaceful protests against government inaction over pollution, turned aggressive as demonstrators fought with police. Thousands joined demonstrations in New Delhi, criticising authorities. Police made mass arrests for assembling without permission. Every winter we face the same problem. The air quality deteriorates significantly. The situation has reached a point where it is impossible to live in Delhi during the winter without a mask or an air purifier. Protesters armed with chants and placards carried on into the night, but again police made arrests, forcing dozens of demonstrators onto buses. Reality is that imagine we don't even know how polluted the air is. Most of the air quality monitors are not working. Air quality monitors actually have been manipulated. So largely rather than managing pollution, what the government is doing is managing or manipulating its perception or image in that sense. People are gasping for breath. Daily life in New Delhi has been suffocated by the contaminated air. Motorists are almost driving blind. Entire neighbourhoods are cloaked by a wall of pollution. The city and neighbouring districts are prone to thick smog, dust trapped by heavy air, vehicle emissions and smoke from agricultural fires. We've developed very bad coughs because of the polluted air and dust, especially those who travel on a motorbike. It doesn't matter what you do to breathe, it becomes a problem. In recent weeks authorities have taken measures including the installation of smog towers and bans on construction periods during air quality spikes. They've also trialled cloud seeding in an attempt to trigger rain artificially to help limit pollution.
