Chaos has erupted on the streets of Melbourne as protestors and police clashed leaving three officers injured. As a pro-trans group marched through the city, flares were lit and police with pepper spray made several arrests.

Police and a pro-trans activist group clashed during a protest in Melbourne's CBD, with officers conducting around 145 searches for weapons and illicit items. Authorities intervened to prevent the group from disrupting a women's rights gathering and established a large police blockade to keep the groups apart.

Hundreds of officers, including riot and mounted divisions, were deployed as the protest moved through the city. Several protesters were detained for questioning, and four arrests were made, including one person charged with assaulting a police officer. The ongoing protests have required significant police resources, reportedly diverting 22,000 shifts from other areas.

Officers exercised omni-operations which allowed them to conduct about 145 searches of protesters, searching for weapons and illicit items. Hundreds of officers lined the streets including riot, armed and mounted divisions. Unable to achieve their goal, the group snaked through the streets of the city where the chaos unfolded. One officer caught in friendly fire. The activists attempted to approach Parliament steps a second time, only to be faced by a bolstered blue line. Do not approach the police line, any criminal offence may result in your arrest. During the march through the city, many protesters have been detained by police and asked to remove their masks and taken away for questioning. The protesters' numbers slowly dwindled as the day went on as police cleared the streets just before 2 o'clock.
