Twenty five people aboard a Delta Air Lines flight were taken to hospital Wednesday after “significant turbulence” forced a plane traveling from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam to make an emergency landing in Minneapolis.

A Delta Air Lines flight carrying more than 200 passengers from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam was diverted to Minneapolis after experiencing significant turbulence approximately two hours into the journey. Emergency and fire personnel met the plane upon landing to provide medical assistance, with 25 passengers reported injured and some transported to hospital.

Passengers described the turbulence as severe, with those not wearing seatbelts and service carts being thrown against the ceiling and floor multiple times. Delta Air Lines has expressed gratitude to first responders and is working to determine the cause of the incident. Updates on the condition of those hospitalized are pending.

Yeah, I mean, terrifying moments came for these more than 200 passengers on this flight. As you said, this flight was going from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam. That's about a nine hour flight. It got diverted about two hours in after hitting what is being called significant turbulence and then it landed in Minneapolis. Well, when that plane landed, I can tell you that fire personnel, emergency personnel rushed to the gate to actually perform some medical attention to some of these passengers before some of them even had to go to the hospital. We're told 25 people were injured on this flight and we're actually hearing from some of those passengers who were on board. I want you to take a listen to this. If you didn't have your seatbelt on, everyone that didn't have, they hit the ceiling and then they fell to the ground and the carts also hit the ceiling and fell to the ground and people were injured and it was, and it happened several times. So it was really scary. Again, terrifying moments, Delta thanking those first responders in a statement about the flight. But as you said, we are still working to get more information exactly what caused all of this turbulence. But it is good to know that some people are okay, others at the hospital will get a check up on how they're doing.

The announcement comes as international pressure mounts on Israel over the war in Gaza and the deepening humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian enclave.
