Rescuers in parts of Australia are saving people trapped in their homes by flooding. The area got months worth of rain in just a few days and more rain’s coming. CNN’s Lynda Kinkade has the story.

Rescue workers have been deployed in parts of Australia to assist residents trapped in their homes due to severe flooding. Large areas of New South Wales have received several months' worth of rainfall within a few days, leading to rapidly rising floodwaters and challenging rescue conditions.

Authorities have advised approximately 50,000 people to prepare for evacuation or possible isolation as rain continues and dangerous winds are forecast. Emergency personnel are going door to door to evacuate those at risk, but access to some towns remains limited as fast-moving waters cut off entire communities.

In the town of Taree, one of the hardest hit areas, river levels have exceeded six metres, reaching their highest point since 1929. Officials caution that some rivers are yet to peak, and conditions could deteriorate further. Approximately 2,500 emergency workers are operating in flood-affected zones, and officials warn residents to avoid entering floodwaters, describing the situation as a “once in a lifetime event.”

About 2,500 emergency workers have been deployed to the flood zones, but until the rain stops and the waters recede, officials warn the worst is not over yet.
