I spoke with advocates about why reaching a negotiation deal is so important. If we do not offer competitive benefits, we will continue to lose good teachers to other districts. At the October board meeting, advocates questioned why Ross, a five star school district teachers are paid so little. The Ross Education Association and district administrators have been negotiating a deal since February beat the state and every surrounding district around us, but they're still underpaid. The lowest of the totem pole, the Madeira salary comparisons and on every page Ross is towards the bottom or at the bottom. Karen Burwinkle reached out to W. C. P. O. Nine saying over the last five years, 19 teachers have left. We have a 12, 96 year old and when our next child comes through that same grade level and that teacher is not there anymore for them to have, it's really sad. The R. E. A. Representing about 150 teachers filed an unfair labor complaint alleging the district pressured staff during talks. Amy Brozart says the salary schedule is a sticking point and the board will say it is a substantial upgrade from where we are and it absolutely is. In a statement, Ross Superintendent Dr Bill Rice says in part quote, we will continue to be available to bargain with the R. E. A. Working to ensure a fair compensation package for our teachers. I am sure our teachers will continue to show up for our students and I'm confident students will not be placed in the middle of these ongoing negotiations. But then it decreases almost immediately by the time you get to your five or six comparatively speaking. And so the long term piece of that just isn't there.
