This robot can be in places where humans do not want to be or it's too dangerous for them. Deepak Pathak and Abhinav Gupta have raised more than $300 million to chase a breakthrough, a human-style brain that can adapt to new situations in real time. If you think of robotics hardware, it has existed for decades. But why are still the robots not out there? Because it's the brain that has been missing. Until you have a brain, that hardware is almost useless. The two are robotics professors at Carnegie Mellon University, which today hosted President Trump and Pennsylvania officials for a first-of-its-kind AI summit, where companies announced more than $90 billion worth of investments in AI and in the massive amounts of energy that will be needed to power it. China and other countries are racing to catch up to America, having to do with AI, and we're not going to let them do it. We have the great chips, we have the great everything, and we're going to be fighting them in a very friendly fashion. Outside the summit, students protested Trump's recent rollback of his predecessor's clean energy subsidies. Solar and wind are the fastest-growing sources of electricity. China makes windmills, but how many wind farms do you see in China? I haven't seen any lately. Actually, China has nearly doubled its wind power capacity just over the past four years, with the goal of doubling it again by 2030.
