Oscar Piastri was handed a 10-second penalty after an aggressive move on the inside led to contact with Kimi Antonelli and Charles Leclerc during the sixth lap of the São Paulo Grand Prix. The stewards found Piastri at fault, a decision that pushed him down to fifth place and generated controversy, with some commentators suggesting Antonelli could have avoided the incident.

Despite Piastri's frustration with the penalty and his pace, his McLaren teammate Lando Norris won the race and increased his championship lead to 24 points with three races remaining. The next event on the calendar is the Las Vegas Grand Prix scheduled for November 23rd.

The stewards deeming the McLaren driver at fault for the incident on the sixth lap, handing him a controversial 10-second penalty. That's the standard penalty, no mitigating circumstances. I'm not surprised. I think Oscar has been hard done by here. I think Kimi could have still maybe held the position but made Oscar's life easier. Kimi knew that Oscar was on the inside, I think, and he kind of did the corner like Oscar was never there. For me, it's not, the blame is not all on us, Oscar. Frustration for the Australian. Because I could see Kimi was not going to give me any space and, yeah, I can't disappear, but the decision is what it is. The penalty pushing Piastri back to fifth. A disastrous weekend for him, but a perfect one for teammate Lando Norris. Lando Norris wins the São Paulo Grand Prix. George Russell holds off Oscar Piastri to take fourth place. Norris's overall lead stands at 24 points. That's almost a full Grand Prix in front with just three to go.
