After a record 10th Olympic participation, Georgian shooter Nino Salukvadze confirmed her retirement. At the Paris Games, she became the only female athlete to compete continuously for 36 years. Salukvadze, now 55, won her first gold medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics when she was 19, a time when Georgia was still part of the Soviet Union.

Salukvadze initially planned to retire after the Tokyo 2020 Olympics but decided to continue for one more round due to encouragement from her father, who was also her coach and mentor. He passed away before the Olympics, but lived long enough to see her qualify for Paris 2024. Over her distinguished career, the pistol shooter won three medals: one gold, one silver, and one bronze.
