The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued a preliminary report on the UPS plane crash that occurred in Louisville, Kentucky, earlier this month. The 12-page report includes new photographs, airport surveillance footage, and a detailed analysis of the aircraft's flight path and structural components. 

Investigators found evidence of fatigue cracks and overstress failures in the component attaching the wing to the engine, specifically the left pylon aft mount lug. The crash resulted in 14 fatalities, including three crew members, and 23 injuries. Rescue teams spent days searching through extensive debris to recover victims, and the investigation remains ongoing.

We're also finally getting some answers about what might have caused the tragic crash of a UPS plane shortly after takeoff earlier this month in Kentucky. CBS News correspondent Chanel call in the newsroom right now just got that report. You're just reading through it. What are you seeing Chanel? Yeah, so this is a 12 page report. It's a preliminary report we should mention because it was just released a couple of weeks after that terrible fiery crash that happened in Louisville. In this report read, there's some new photos and some new videos, including surveillance video from the airport itself from the moment of that crash. So let's take you to my computer screen now because I want to show you the report itself. So if we can pull up my computer screen, I can show you there it is. So this is the report. If you scroll down, you can see some of those photos that I'm talking about here, and you can really the moment this crash happened and that fire started. This report read also includes a very close and detailed look at the flight path and some diagrams of the actual plane parts to explain what may have happened here. So when you asked about some of the big takeaways, the big revelation here, this report is suggesting is that there were some cracks and failures on the part of this plane that essentially attaches the wing to the engine. So that really is one big takeaway here, and I'll read you an excerpt from the report. It says, quote, examination of the left pylon aft mount lug fractures found evidence of fatigue cracks in addition to areas of over stress failure. Again, you'll remember this video. I mean, this was dramatic. It was fiery. This happened about two weeks ago, and we know that 14 people read were killed in this crash. That includes three crew workers. The U. P. S. Plane crashing into this really dramatic ball of flames in Louisville. Also, 23 other people were injured. You'll remember as well read that crews were working for days to try to search through all that rubble. So much charred debris that stretched about half a mile to try to find some of the victims of this crash. It was super tough for them to do that. So certainly a lot of interest in this preliminary report released just about an hour ago. Ah, lot of people still looking for answers on this, uh, and want to know what can be done to prevent something like this from happening ever again.
