The prosecutor in the case has said he could face up to 10 years in prison, in a trial expected to start in January and run for six weeks. Habie has no royal title and is outside the line of succession.

The White House says it is working to secure a meeting between the presidents of Russia and Ukraine, which both have agreed to, while plans continue to create security guarantees for Ukraine.
