A new atmospheric river is moving into the Northwestern United States, prompting flood watches that now extend from Seattle further south into Oregon. The heaviest rainfall is expected in Oregon, with the coast range and foothills forecast to receive five to eight inches, and the Willamette Valley three to five inches.

Seattle is expected to see less rain, which may benefit local events, while mountain snow is increasing and shifting southward, bringing precipitation to central and eastern Oregon. Additional weather systems are expected over the weekend, bringing healthy snowfall to Idaho and Montana, areas recently impacted by strong winds and power outages.

But we're going to start to see our AR kind of shift a little bit. So we've got the flood watches. Notice it's now from Seattle, pushing a little bit farther to the south. Oregon's really going to be the highlighted zone as we head into today, which is one of the reasons why, from the coast range to the foothills, you've got a pocket of five to eight here, with the Willamette Valley getting three to five. Not as much for Seattle, which may be good, because I believe they have a home game this evening for Thursday night football, which should be a good one. I believe it's the Seahawks versus the Rams. And ultimately, the snow in the mountains is what we've been asking for. We're going to see it kind of shift a little bit farther to the south, which means we'll see rain even into the rain shadow sides of central and eastern Oregon. This is a look at this upcoming weekend when we get reinforcements coming back in, and ultimately going to be looking at very good, healthy snow for folks in the Idaho, Montana, again, some of these areas that just got hit with big winds. Some of those big winds, obviously, causing power outages there as well. So again, from a snowfall perspective, this is what we want to see, because before, Jim, we didn't have much of this, which is one of the reasons why we had all that flooding.
