Fellow Australian Eleanor Patterson finished fifth in the same event. In the discus, Matt Denny faced challenging conditions and finished fourth, nearly ten meters below his personal best. Kai Robinson also placed fourth in the 5,000 meters with a sub-13-minute run, while Jess Hull finished eighth in the 800-meter final, just missing her Australian record. The Australian men's 4x100 relay team was unable to finish after a baton mishap, but the championships saw several athletes deliver strong performances.

The worst possible conditions for the discus and for our gold medal hope, Matt Denny. Denny first up. Oh, goodness me. Oh, he's pissed off. And he wasn't the only one. Even with competition suspended multiple times and a vigorous wipe down of the circle, Denny finishing fourth with a throw almost 10 meters under his best. Kai Robinson is one to watch, crossing fourth in the 5,000-meter with a sub-13-minute effort. In that final hundred, I feel like your vision just goes blurry, and you just hope you make it over that line, and I'm glad I did. After a huge week, Jess Hull ran her own race in the 800-meter final, finishing eighth and just shy of her Australian record. I think I've had every experience you could imagine in a world championships over the last nine days. The curse that followed the Aussie relay teams all weekend struck the men's 4x100, the baton failing to make it to Rowan Browning on the final change.
