The event was organized in response to increased ICE raids and enforcement actions, which have intensified following expanded federal funding and policy changes under President Donald Trump.

Participants were instructed to film encounters with ICE officers and use neighborhood groups and alert systems to monitor and respond to ICE activity. Organizers reported over 1,000 attendees in Brooklyn and the Bronx and plan to continue these training sessions to support and protect local communities.

I think we've all seen video of what are essentially kidnappings going on, a complete ignoring of any of the norms of what I felt was democracy, the norms of the Constitution, due process, everything. U.S. President Donald Trump has funneled tens of billions of dollars into ICE since starting his second term, promising to crack down on illegal immigration. Arrests by the agency have skyrocketed, and its tactics have become increasingly violent, especially in so-called sanctuary cities with immigrant-friendly policies. This has prompted widespread outrage, with many calling into question the legality of the enforcement programs. At the anti-ICE training, speakers encouraged participants to film all encounters with ICE officers. When you record, you are ensuring that ICE, who lies, cannot lie about what happened. They shared community mobilization techniques, breaking into neighborhood groups to monitor ICE on a local level, and distributed whistles to rapidly alert ICE activity. I would like to be able to support my community. I love living in New York. I can't imagine living anywhere else, so I need to protect it. Organizers reported that over 1,000 people came out for the day's trainings in Brooklyn and the Bronx. They say they will continue the sessions with the goal of blocking ICE's actions in the city.
