New videos have emerged capturing the midair collision involving an American Airlines aircraft and a military Blackhawk helicopter near Washington's Reagan National Airport. The footage was obtained by CNN and analyzed by aviation expert Miles O'Brien. The analysis suggests that the helicopter may not have been taking evasive actions at the time of the collision, though the visibility in the footage is limited due to darkness. 

Air traffic control had issued a warning to the helicopter crew about incoming traffic immediately prior to the collision, and the crew acknowledged the warning. Despite this, questions remain regarding the crew's actions following the warning, including whether they correctly identified the approaching American Airlines plane or faced mechanical issues. Concrete conclusions will likely await further investigation.



New videos of plane collision emerge

It appears from the angle there, hard to say for sure, but it looks as if the Blackhawk helicopter was not taking evasive action at that moment. I could be wrong. It's difficult to see with the darkness, but we do know that air traffic control right about just before this had warned the helicopter to be on the lookout for this traffic, the aircraft which it collided with, and the crew acknowledged that. The question is, when they said they saw the traffic, what did they see? Did they mistake the aircraft for something else, or did they become distracted some other way, or is it possible there was some sort of mechanical failure which made it impossible for them to control the craft? All those things will be in mind, but I don't see any attempt at getting behind that aircraft, which was the instruction from air traffic control.
