A raft of government changes will impact Medicare, parental leave, superannuation, wages, and support payments as the new financial year begins in Australia.

The start of the new financial year in Australia brings several government changes aimed at supporting families, workers, and students. Medicare will now offer higher rebates for gynaecological care, longer consultation times, and menopause health assessments, with a focus on reducing out-of-pocket costs for women.

Government-paid parental leave is extended from 22 to 24 weeks, and superannuation will be paid during this period for the first time. Employer superannuation contributions will rise, and the national minimum wage will increase by 3.5%. Eligible households and small businesses will receive an energy bill rebate, Centrelink payments will see a small increase, and the age pension threshold will be raised. Nursing and teaching students will receive paid practical placements, and a $10,000 incentive is available for apprentices in housing construction.
