In a speech to the Knesset, Trump even asked for Netanyahu to be pardoned in his corruption trial. But is all really well? In Gaza, Israeli airstrikes have continued to kill scores of people. Israel also still occupies over half of the territory and is blocking the entry of vital humanitarian aid. And the deal that the Trump administration brokered recently shows no sign of moving to the second phase. If you look at the agreement, the second phase is just unimplementable. It is not viable. And it has to do with the fact that Hamas did not disarm, that Israel did not fully withdraw, that no one in his right mind would join an international stabilization force until those two elements are fulfilled, meaning Hamas disarmament and Israeli full withdrawal. That makes the US look foolish. And that's not a good look for President Trump. Israel also challenges Trump by continuing to strike and occupy parts of Lebanon and Syria, despite US-brokered ceasefires in place there too. Trump wants from Netanyahu something that Netanyahu is not willing to give him, and that it's much more cooperation and goodwill and good faith in terms of the next phases in Gaza, or at the same time exercising restraints in Syria and Lebanon. Especially because Trump had already publicly declared peace in the Middle East. We ended the war in Gaza and really on a much bigger basis created peace, and I think it's going to be a lasting peace, hopefully an everlasting peace. Peace in the Middle East. As a former Israeli diplomat says, Netanyahu is hoping Trump's attention will move to other conflicts. Netanyahu is exactly building, or banking rather, on the notion that he will lose interest, he will move to Ukraine, he will move to Cambodia and Thailand, he will meet with Kim Jong-un of North Korea, not to mention domestic, pressing domestic issues in the US. And now, Netanyahu's visit to the US could be a test for how involved Trump really is in the region.
