The national cheerleading championships in Melbourne drew over 12,000 athletes from across Australia, making it the largest event in the competition's 20-year history. Participants ranged in age from six to 52, representing more than 2,500 clubs and showcasing routines they had prepared throughout the year.

The event fostered a strong sense of community, with athletes highlighting the teamwork, trust, and friendships developed through the sport. Teams competed over the weekend for a chance to qualify for the World Championships in the United States, with organizers describing the atmosphere as electrifying and motivating.

High-flying action at the cheerleading Mecca being held in Melbourne. More than 12,000 athletes from all over the country have descended on the city to take part in the national cheerleading championships. Athletes of all ages took to the stage showcasing what they have been working on all year. Our youngest is my daughter, it's six year old and our oldest is 52. So it's an incredible experience. We really love, it really makes the team come together. More than 2,500 clubs are on show but the competition holds a special place for each individual competitor. My favourite part is just the competing and seeing everyone clap for us. It's great, it's like a family, we're so close knit, we all love each other so much, we work together. I get to be with all my friends and just have a lot of fun today. You develop such unique and strong bonds, our whole sport is based on trust. I love it because we just like see each other all the time and they're the best friends I've ever had. This year's event is the biggest in the competition's history. It's unlike nothing else, it is electrifying, it is energising and it is just so motivating to be part of, you know, from 3 to 83 there's something for everyone and just to be part of something is so uplifting, it's really special. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the competition with teams battling it out over the weekend with some vying for a spot at the World's and the United States. It's super high intense, the best of the best are here and we're really, really excited to see what's on display this weekend. For those involved it's a weekend they won't forget.
