Muslim students at the University of South Florida say they felt their safety was "stripped away" when three men harassed them with slurs and threats during their morning prayer.

Several Muslim students at the University of South Florida (USF) were harassed by three unidentified men while praying atop the Collins parking garage. The men shouted profanities, taunted the students with bacon, and made derogatory remarks, including accusations and xenophobic comments. The incident was recorded and has prompted widespread reaction on social media.

USF police are working to identify the perpetrators and have stated that criminal charges may be pursued. The students involved have called for hate crime charges, while local Christian leaders have condemned the actions, emphasizing that such behavior does not represent their faith.

But we begin tonight with a growing response to this video making waves on social media. Welcome to Tampa Bay 28 News at six. I'm Wendy Ryan. I'm Paula grown. That video showing several men taunting and harassing muslim students at USF while they were praying. And tonight Tampa Bay 28 News reporter Jada Williams is listening to those students what they say happened here and why USF is not the only place six a.m. Tuesday morning right here where I'm standing at the top of the Collins parking garage is where a group of muslim students were trying to pray. What happened next is all caught on video. You're going to burn in hell right by our heads. We heard stomping and profanities and screaming. Jesus Christ is coming soon. Once a month Sajid Khan and other members of USF muslim student association meet up. We came up here six o'clock in the morning. Nobody's up here as usual. Um and then we began our prayer and three men who we did not know uh approached us during our prayer bacon. Anybody video shows the men taunting them with bacon. I spit on the grave of Mohammed spitting towards them. Take that towel off of your head and shouting. There's the personal level where they were like when you feel like you're accepted in a place and then all of a sudden you're told you've got a bomb strapped to your chest. You've got um you should go back to a country that I've never been to. More video shows how tense the interaction became what we emulated in this recent incident that you know we don't entertain these uh these ignorant people. Like he said being a muslim is a lifestyle and it is the religion of peace and we want to make uphold that reputation and keep ignorant people like this to uh stain uh what people perceive our religion to be. They tell me the group responsible does this all over the country. Live streaming and posting the moments on social media. Those three people I don't believe were acting in a religious aspect. I believe that they were serving their own selfish desires and fueling their own hate that they hold for people. Right 123. What do you think this comes after that? Meantime on USF campus thursday. So you believe in the resurrection? Yeah you do. Amazing. Sam row with Calvary Church. Brandon took a different approach to sharing christianity. The method that we use is more conversational and students here have have actually commented, you know, we appreciate that approach as opposed to just you being on a bullhorn kind of yelling at us, say you're going to hell. You know, I showed him the video of what happened to the students. Jesus said that you will know the world will know that you are my disciples for your love for one another. And I would not say what I saw on the video was love. That was a lot of misplaced zeal. I can still see your face. We should only see your eyelashes. He says those three don't represent his religion. I certainly think a cast a bad shadow on christians um for thousands of years since the beginning of christianity. There's always been those that have claimed to be christian but with their actions have not followed the teachings of christ. USF police says they're working to identify and trespass the men in the video. Part of their statement reads quote, once identifications are made, we anticipate referring the perpetrators to the state attorney's office for criminal charges.
