AccuWeather's Bernie Rayno breaks down what the Northwest can expect in the coming days as multiple storms make their way through the region.

The Northwest region is expected to experience multiple storms, resulting in heavy rainfall and mountain snow over the coming days. Oregon faces a heightened flood risk, with some areas potentially receiving over a foot of rain, especially in the coastal range and west slopes of the Cascades.

Snow levels in the Cascades will drop below pass level, leading to significant snowfall, particularly in the Washington Cascades. As the jet stream shifts south next week, most of the rain will move into California, bringing much-needed precipitation to that region.

Multiple storms to deliver rain and mountain snow to Northwest

All right, the weather continues in the northwest through this weekend, but change is coming as we head into next week. Take a look at the satellite today. There's two storms we're tracking. Today's storm does have a feed of tropical moisture on its southern side, so there will be some heavy rain with this. The second storm is in the over Alaska. That's going to produce mostly showers as we go through this weekend. But another storm bringing heavy rain to the northwest, but this is going to target Oregon, not Washington. That's where we have the flood threat here over the next 24 to 48 hours. Some spots in the coastal range and the west slopes of the Cascades will easily pick up over a half a foot of rain, and we have an AccuWeather local storm max over a foot of rain. Now, as we go forward, of course, we're going to get the heavy rain across parts of Oregon in the next 24 to 48 hours. But over the weekend, notice when you look at the rainfall projections, not a lot of additional rain in the lowlands as we go through this weekend. But the one area that will be impacted greatly this weekend will be the Cascades because snow levels will be falling well below pass level beginning Friday, and that will last through the weekend with bursts of heavy snow, and we'll be measuring over a foot of snow in many of the passes, especially across the Washington Cascades. Here's the good news for the northwest. As we get into next week, the jet stream comes a little farther south, so most of the rain will be going into an area that really could use it, and that'll be California.
