It's a race against time for the inhabitants of the high Atlas Mountains and the devastated village of Amizmiz. Using their hands and construction equipment, they carefully scour the rubble for their neighbours trapped underneath. On Friday, the Moroccan region was struck by a devastating 6.8 magnitude earthquake which injured and killed thousands of people. Many homes were destroyed, built of mud bricks and timber. Some are still standing, but have sustained significant damage. The wall cracked and everything fell to the ground. I had to flee with my children to the street. Then I heard that my neighbour was under the rubble, so I went to help her. A neighbour who survived, but lost what little she had. I couldn't escape because the roof fell on me. I was trapped. I was saved by my neighbours who removed the stones by hand. Now I live with them, but my house is in ruins. Troops and emergency services have scrambled to reach the remote mountain villages. Thirty-six hours after the event, finding survivors under the ruins is getting rarer. In Amizmiz, the locals are digging graves for their loved ones and proceeding to bury them in immense distress. The Ministry of Education announced the closure of schools in the localities most affected by the earthquake in the province of Al-Hawuz starting from Monday. The International Federation for Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has released over $1 million from its Emergency Disaster Fund to support the Moroccan Red Crescent's work on the ground. Meanwhile, Spain has already dispatched 56 firefighters to the country.

The search for missing children from a girls' summer camp hit by flash floods in Texas entered a third day on Sunday, as rescuers faced the threat of more flooding and the death toll in the region reached at least 67.
