The number of people left without homes by the quake, which has devastated Marrakesh and numerous villages in Morocco's Atlas mountain region, is not known.

After the earthquake, we found ourselves without a home. The roof collapsed, but fortunately we were able to come to this centre, which the Marrakech authorities have set up. But there are still people on the street who are not welcome here. We hope that a solution will be found for them, that they won't have to wait months or even a year. There are children, sick people, we're waiting for help. In the Sidi Youssef neighbourhood, despite the poor state of the buildings and in the absence of alternatives, life goes on out of necessity. After the earthquake, people stopped going to the stores. Now activity is picking up a little, shopkeepers are selling again and people are buying. If they don't do something to feed their children, no one will help them. Siham is a well-known figure in the neighbourhood. Although her house was not damaged, she wants her neighbours' voices to be heard. Where is the government? Where are the authorities? Aren't the people of Sidi Youssef part of Marrakech? It's a disgrace. The damage to the houses is evident. The walls have numerous cracks, the ground is unstable. It's impossible to stay inside for fear of the building collapsing. So during the day, these inhabitants live outside and when the evening comes, they all set off in search of a safe place to spend the night.
